Grimentz's Geranium Trail

The geranium, Grimentz's summer motif, has numerous unknown species of which 34 fragrant types can be admired and enjoyed along the pedestrian alleys of the old village, via our “Geranium Trail”. Along this trail, we offer you a game of discovery based on the sense of smell which will challenge you to rediscover the different scents of Geraniums. Free and fascinating, Grimentz's Geranium Trail will bewitch you! Which are the fragrant geraniums and where do they come from? 250 years ago, geraniums were discovered in South Africa. The diversity of species even includes deliciously fragrant geraniums: lemon, ginger, orange and even “Chocolate Peppermint”: a natural diversity which makes our “Geranium Trail” a real olfactory and visual pleasure. Why are there so many geraniums on our balconies and why fragrant geraniums? These geraniums have the double benefit of keeping away mosquitoes and perfuming rooms. A simple rubbing often suffices in bringing out the perfumes of Rose, Orange, Mint or Lemon. An old tradition takes place during the Village Patrons' Festival, on 16 August every year, as the “Prize of the flowered balconies” rewards the most beautiful balcony of the year. Is it possible to eat fragrant geraniums? Because their leaves are edible, certain species can be used as aromatic and / or decorative plants in certain dishes or meals. A good example of this is “Geranium Jam”. Dried, the leaves are also an essential ingredient in fragrant potpourris.
